i got it!

Ton had a fever for a day, came home early from school yesterday but was fine this morning.
Warm spring day today, but expected to get really winter-cold tomorrow.
I can feel my hay fever trying to figure out if it's time to come play or not; crazy weather messing with everyone.
Except Mo. My son is apparently made of iron. Including, I sometimes think, his brain.
Recently he enjoys walking and refuses to ride in the stroller. He'll put on shoes (often his mother's or his sisters, my Little Gay Boy), and stand in front of the door mumbling, "fas-fas...fas FAS!"
He demonstrates how fast he is by running full speed into the opening elevator doors, and bouncing his head off of the back wall of the elevator. Acceleration he has mastered; braking, needs work.
This morning he walked the entire way to school. Every time I tried to take his hand, say when crossing the street, he would pull away and shout "I got it!"
Every time a car comes near I announce "CAR!" and both of them immediately hustle to the side of the rode and wait for the car to pass. This generally involves jumping off of whatever curb/step/planter box is nearest at hand. And of course Mo follows and copies his big sister, just with half the coordination but twice the stubbornness. If I try to help, I get a resounding "I got it!"
Then he runs off down the street, looking in every direction except that in which he is headed, with that weird, wobbling, tottering, barely balanced stride that only a toddler - whose brain can't keep up with his legs - can do. I sometimes wonder if he has knees for any purpose other than to fall on and scrape all the skin off of.

And occasionally he shouts, for no apparent reason, and generally in the direction of a fence or wall: "YAKI-IMO!"*

* baked sweet potato, an item sold off of the back of a truck that drives around the neighborhood in cold weather, blasting that word from speakers mounted on the rood, and baking them in a scrap-wood burning, smoke-belching furnace on the back of the truck.

Managed to get to bed at 5am and stay there until almost 10am, at which point I simply had to take the Tonchabeast out. We hit the park, then Appi, then the Hills, and finally the slide park, before meeting P and Mo for some well-deserved sushi dinner.

not quite

The Tonchabeast had herself a nice 38°C fever this morning, so she crashed out on the couch and I skipped my morning workout to sit with her and help her nibble breakfast.
Decided to hit the gym at lunch to do some exercise for the day, but the studio was being used for a meeting (?) so I started straight in on the workout: triceps. Lots and lots and lots of triceps work, to failure. Dips. Double-katanas, ski-jumpers. And some shoulder work just to round it all out.
When I finished the lunch-time Power Yoga class was about to start, so on a whim I jumped in.
Wow: putting the POWER in Power Yoga. And my arms and chest were already totally shot from working out, so I was even more shaky and unstable that usual.
Things I cannot do:
  • balance on one foot whilst twisting into all kinds of neat poses
  • holding up my entire body with just my hands and my body precariously balanced on my arms
Things I can do:
  • deep leg stretches
  • back bends
  • nearly unnatural torso twists
Yoga is...fun! And this Power Yoga stuff is quite a workout. Think I might have to make an effort to keep this up once or twice a week. Nice change to round out the silliness I usually do to my body during the week.

Met up with Cheapie family at Appi, played around a bit, then got some sukiyaki for dinner before checking out their new place and heading home.

Spent all morning looking at apartments so Ton was pretty fried and went to bed without a bath.

Apparently Ton is simultaneously terrified of pigeons and yet determined to play with them. She follows them around until they either fly away or turn sharply in her direction. In the former case, she shouts "Go away pigeon!" and giggles, in the latter case she shrieks in fear and jumps onto me.

The mind of a 3 year-old is truly an enigma.

After the photo shoot she was DYING to try this on, so they let her, and the director said she was so cute can they do another round of photos? Sure, why not!

Ton's modelling debut (and most likely her final performance): friend at work knows a guy at Dentsu who wanted half-kids for a photo shoot. So I volunteered Ton, figuring how bad can it be?

Took the train to Yoga, entered the prep room and Ton was her typical shy self. They had toys and a Purikyua magazine and snacks, so finally she warmed up a bit and got changed into an orange, elfin kinda dress. They put fresh flowers in her hair and around her neck, and we went into the studio and danced and marched and jumped around for 15 minutes.

She actually got really into it and we had a good time running amok as they took photos. Finally ended so we went back into the ready room for a different dress and new hair and makeup. Then back into the studio for more shots. She was really into it now and was getting the hang of hitting her mark and doing all the poses they wanted.

There were also a few SERIOUS moms in the place whose kids were probably professionals. No thanks!

boyfriend weekend

On Sunday Ton saw Daiki at the park and followed him to La Boheme for lunch, so we had pizza and pasta, then went back to the park where she followed around some little Russian kid, until Roy showed up. Then she followed HIM around until he went home.
That night we met up with Tai-kun and his family (who have just moved into the neighborhood), so Ton had various boyfriends throughout the day!
