Quality lunch. Buried beneath the rice: ikura, tamago, ebi...and topped with a raw quail's egg in the shell.
So. Good.

Fat Little No-Neck. Formal photo taken at Suitengu Shrine after the traditional 1-month blessing.
Attempted to take a family photo but Tonchan was having nothing of it.
Barely managed to wake up Mookun for the photo.
The kimono was from grandma, the bib and hat provided by the photo studio.
And no, I do not know what he has to wear a dorky bib and hat.
But I DO know this photo will serve most excellently to some day embarrass him immensely.

The hot, wet season is upon us. And so come the bugs. Recently Ton has discovered bugs. She has discovered that she does not like them. And she is amazingly good at spotting them; ants, flies, mosquitos...she can spot an insect meters away and is none-too-thrilled about their existence.
And with good reason: woke up this morning and she had several bites on her legs. Didn't want the anti-itch muhi treatment, which doesn't seem to work for her anyway. Didn't want any skin cream or lotion, which at least has a placebo effect. Did not mind P's ancient Japanese ninja treatment: soapy water.
But what she really, really wanted was band-aids. Lots of them. You can see a couple on her left leg and there are more on her right. I also had to re-apply one three times to get it just right. She likes stickers, but she LOVES band-aids.
Also can't find her pink sunglasses (they must be hiding with her watch, various hair bands and ribbons, an old wallet of mine, and who knows what else) so she sported her alternative shades today.
And was in no mood for photos from the papparazzi. I took this shot and she got all huffy: "No Papa! No photo!"

Yesterday spent the day with Tai and the Cheapies. Met for awesome Dimsum and stuffed our selves silly, then got lost attempting to avoid the rain by navigating to the downstairs Starbucks. Tai and Ton ran and screamed and played, Mo napped heavily in the ergo carrier.

Finally took a taxi home as the rain wouldn't stop, then took a loooooong late nap and woke just in time for dinner.

Ton has her breakfast icecream (don't ask) in one hand and her hair scrunchy on the other, and she's engrossed in Howl's Moving Castle, so she didn't mind at all Mo's incessant screaming. She just kept "ton-ton-ton" tapping on his stomach and dripping icrecream on his head.

It was a wet Father's Day. Rained all day, so we stayed inside.

Ton discovered another movie: Howl's Moving Castle. This brings her library up to 4: Totoro, Kiki, Mimi O Sumaseba (aka "cat!"), and how Howl's. The evil shadowy mean things didn't scare her, but whenever the fire element Calcifer would blaze up and speak she freaked out. But wanted to keep watching.

Mo was typical; lots of pooping, lots of feeding, lots of gurgling.

Sometime after lunch I passed out. Napped with Ton for a bit and then napped some more. It being my day, P let me sleep until Ton came in and clonked me on the head, just as the neighborhood chime was ringing 5pm.

And then it was time for dinner! And a shower. Mo digs the shower; he woke up all grumpy but I dropped him into his shower chair, lathered him up, hosed him down, and he was chill and happy. And then he peed on my a whole bunch.

Went to the park in the morning and had some Udon for lunch.

Then in the afternoon Aunt Reichan came by. Ton was napping in the stroller and Mo was asleep on my shoulder, so P and Rei went to get lunch. When they came home the kids were up so we headed out for some more park action, then ended up at the Hills and got some sushi for dinner.

She has her Nintento DS is the cool Penelope bag, which then goes into the Miffy bag. She always has a bag. With stuff. This girl has so many different bags, and so many different things to put in her bags. She is incapable of leaving the house, going to bed, taking a shower, or sitting down at the dinner table, without some stuff in a bag.

I let her pick my tie this morning, and she wanted to wear something too. I couldn't find her dolphin necklace that baba made for her (it must be in a bag somewhere) so I grabbed a white ribbon, but she wanted it on her head.
I attempted to tie the ribbon cutely on her head. I failed I think; looks more like a hachimaki worn by a sushi chef or something.

I was taking a shower this morning and for some strange reason Ton wanted me to wash her hair. She hates having her hair washed, or more specifically hates having her hair rinsed, because she doesn't like her face covered -- I put a washcloth over her eyes so she doesn't get soap in them. So I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share with her the joys of hair-washing (an activity I have very little experience with) and after the shower P braided her hair; much easier when it's still wet and kinda straight.

The Tonchasaur has been a little sniffly lately. Had a reasonable amount of fun this weekend so we let her sleep in this morning.

This is fairly typical: no covers, rotated 90 degrees (so her feet are in my face), one hand on her belly button.

She finally woke up way later than usual. I put Mo in the jungle and went to brush my teeth. When I came back he was crying a bit and Ton was sitting next to him patting his stomach. She looked at me, pointed at me, pointed to the door and said "GO."
Yeah, feel the love, thanks.

So finally she had a rushed breakfast of teddybear cereal, I threw her into some clothes, and hustled to school with a quick onigiri from the am/pm first. As soon as we got to school she was all smiles and happy.

Met little Cheapie and family for buffet lunch in Ginza. Ton was still feeling a bit bleh so she only had a few chunks of daikon, but I inhaled way too much dimsum and other fine eats.

Then we went to Cheapie's place to collect a bunch of boy stuff for Mo. Ton passed out in the taxi but got all sparky again when we got home.

Cheapie Family, thanks again for all the stuff!

The rainy season is upon us. Ton made this cool umbrella at school. Well ok she didn't really make the umbrella, but she drew all over it with crayons and put stickers on it, so it's her new favorite. Took her to school today without the stroller, because when it rains, there is no way P can carry Riku, hold an umbrella, and push Ton in the stroller to take her home.

When Ton's with P, she'll walk, but when I take her to school she keeps saying "Papa, it's dangerous with the cars, so be careful! You'd better carry me." I tell her I'm ok, and if there's a car on the street we stop, but she keeps saying it's dangerous -- that's her excuse to get me to carry her!

suitengu

Yesterday we took the whole family, including jiji and baba, to Suitengu, to do the traditional one-month celebratory thing.
After doing a little offering and namu-namu at the shrine, we went upstairs to get a nice family portrait taken...only Chikage was having none of it. She went into a foul mood as soon as we went into the photo studio and then started crying and having a fit. Riku was totally chill. We tried hanging out and relaxing for a bit to see if Ton would calm down, but she was having none of it.
Finally we just went for the Riku photo. They strapped him into a chair (being one-month old he can't keep his head up let alone sit), wrapped the kimono on him, straightened his celebratory bib and hat, and then began to clap, sing, rattle, bounce, shake, poke, and flash bright lights in an attempt to wake him up. None of it worked. He sat happy as a clam, snoozing away whilst a team of professionals attempted to get him to at least open his eyes long enough to take a photo.
Amazingly, after several minutes of borderline child abuse, he opened his eyes and looked ahead long enough to snap off a few shots.
We shall see how the photos turn out!
After the excitement he got fed and promptly passed out, so we headed down the street to the Royal Park Hotel and feasted at their thoroughly impressive buffet lunch. Fried softshell crabs, a soft-ice machine, pasta, salad bar, fried bananas (!), and a host of other delicious goodies.
The adults and Ton stuffed themselves as babyMo slept the entire time, wedging himself deep into the booth seat.
